{Tutorial Thursday} Felt Flower Pillow Tutorial

What you’ll need:
1 yard fabric
Felt {as many colors as you’d like}
Matching Thread
Black Embroidery Floss
16×16 pillow form or Stuffing
Sewing Machine
Pins
Scissors
Ruler or quilting square

How to:

Cut 1 – 17×17″ square {makes 2 because fabric is folded in half}

Freehand your circles, cutting out of the felt. Do 3 different sizes, large median and small. Use as many colors as you’d like.

Layer the circles on top of each other {small to large} and stitch with an X pattern to the pillow using the black embroidery floss.

Turn the pillow inside out and pin together, sew the 3 raw edges leaving 1/4th of a side open to turn right side out.

Turn right side out and then stuff. Push it down as far as it will go. This will allow extra room at the top while you machine stitch it closed.

Pin the open edge closed, folding the seam into the pillow. Line it up straight, and then sew the last bit of it closed. You’ll want to get as close to the edge as possible.

Clip the threads as needed, and you now have a fun pillow to keep or give away!

{PS. see that really cute yellow ruffle pillow? That's next week's tutorial! YA!}

{TUTORIAL THURSDAY} Marble Magnets

I made these for stocking stuffers a few years back. They're ridiculously easy and inexpensive to make. They are great little gifts to be given for favors at baby shower, bridal shower, or even maybe as a thank you.

What you need:
Decorative papers, such as wallpaper, wrapping paper, or magazine cutouts
Paper punch (1 1/2 and/or 3/4 inches)
Flattened glass marbles
Silicone glue
Strong Round Magnets (1/2” and/or 3/4”)
Scissors (optional)
Pencil (optional)

How to:
1. Using a paper punch, cut out decorative paper rounds. Since the marbles are irregularly shaped, you may have to trim the rounds to match. You can also trace the glass marble onto the paper using a pencil and cut out the shape. You may also want to glue down a white round of cardstock first (junk mail comes in great here) as the glue can seep through your picture and show the dark magnet underneath if you don’t. It didn’t seem to affect my magnets; I used magazine pictures which are fairly flimsy.

2. Using your silicone glue, affix the printed side of the paper to a glass marble. Let the glue dry, and press out any bubbles.

3. Using your silicone glue again, affix a magnet to the back of the paper. Let dry a few hours before using. Packaged in small boxes or tins, the magnets make wonderful gifts.
